Patrick Mahomes kids names, explained: Why Chiefs QB picked this common theme for children
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs earned a first-round bye in the 2025 playoffs after finishing as the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Even though the team was off, the Kansas City quarterback was certainly busy.Mahomes and his wife Brittany welcomed their third child during the bye week, Golden Raye Mahomes, the couple’s second daughter.
All three of the Mahomes children share a commonality between their names. Each name involves some form of a metal, and the connection extends past just the kids.
Here is more on the Mahomes’ family name connection.
Patrick Mahomes’ kids’ names
Sterling Skye Mahomes
Sterling was the Mahomes’ first child. When deciding on a name, Patrick and Brittany said they knew that either way, they would name the first child Sterling. The name works for both a boy and a girl and is a name that Brittany had always loved.
Sterling was born on February 20, 2021. For Mahomes, this came a few short weeks after the Chiefs lost to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55.
Patrick “Bronze” Mahomes
If Patrick had a son, he knew that he wanted him to carry on the family name. The quarterback is Patrick Mahomes II, and he and his brother Jackson are trying to come up with clever ways to create a nickname for the third. Commonly, people go with Trey, but it was Jackson who thought of Bronze. This nickname works perfectly because it keeps the metal/element connection and is commonly known as representing the third. Bronze was born on November 28, 2022.Golden Raye Mahomes
Golden is the most recent of the Mahomes’ children. She was born on Jan. 12, 2025. Despite being their third kid, she gets the Golden name, which continues the pattern but tends to refer to the first of something. Based on some comments from Mahomes during this year’s training camp, he and Brittany are leaning toward Golden being their last child.
Dogs names
Brittany and Patrick adopted dogs together before they ever had kids. She got their dog, Steel, in college. She and Patrick always wanted to have family names that went together and shared a theme. When they got their second dog, the couple would name Sterling to go with Steel, but Brittany wanted that name reserved in case they had a daughter together. Instead, they went with Silver for the second dog’s name. So now, along with Patrick and Brittany, the couple has Sterling, Bronze, Golden, Steel, and Silver.
