Sterling was the Mahomes’ first child. When deciding on a name, Patrick and Brittany said they knew that either way, they would name the first child Sterling. The name works for both a boy and a girl and is a name that Brittany had always loved.

Sterling was born on February 20, 2021. For Mahomes, this came a few short weeks after the Chiefs lost to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55.

If Patrick had a son, he knew that he wanted him to carry on the family name. The quarterback is Patrick Mahomes II, and he and his brother Jackson are trying to come up with clever ways to create a nickname for the third. Commonly, people go with Trey, but it was Jackson who thought of Bronze. This nickname works perfectly because it keeps the metal/element connection and is commonly known as representing the third.
