Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie just embarked on a meaningful royal tour, and the pictures speak for themselves.
This week, the Duke, 60, and Duchess of Edinburgh, 59, traveled to Malta to celebrate the country’s independence. The royal family commemorated the special occasion by sharing a slideshow on Instagram, featuring brand-new photos of the couple (including a candid portrait that needs to be framed).
The slideshow begins with a striking photo of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh standing on a balcony overlooking the area. The pic is followed by multiple never-before-seen pictures of the couple taking tours, casting wreaths and meeting with Maltese citizens.
In the caption, the royal family shared details about the royal couple’s visit to Malta: “This week, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are in Malta to mark the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence.”
It continued, “Today, Their Royal Highnesses commemorated the bravery of the people of Malta during the Second World War, casting a wreath into Valletta harbor which suffered relentless aerial attacks by the Luftwaffe and Italian Air Force. In 1942, at the height of the attacks, King George VI awarded the George Cross to the Maltese population in recognition of their resistance, endurance and loyalty.”
