Just In: How Ben Affleck Is ‘Staying Busy and Happy’ amid Jennifer Lopez Divorce (Exclusive Source) See More
The actor-director is “very focused on work and his kids” amid the breakup with Jennifer Lopez
Ben’s very focused on work and his kids. He’s staying busy and happy,” a source tells PEOPLE of the Oscar winner, 52.
One project occupying Affleck’s time is another collaboration with friend and frequent costar Matt Damon. The duo were photographed on a film set, as Affleck is reportedly directing Damon in a commercial.
He and Damon are also in business together after co-founding the production company Artists Equity, which is behind Lopez’s next film Unstoppable, plus the crime-thriller RIP, which will star Affleck and Damon, 54, with writer-director Joe Carnahan.
“He’s very close with Matt. Matt is Ben’s confidant. Matt always knows exactly what’s going on with Ben,” the source says. “They also enjoy working together.”
When Unstoppable, a sports drama about real-life wrestler Anthony Robles, had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Lopez and Damon showed up for the event, though Affleck skipped. Pals Lopez and Damon were spotted sharing a “deep” conversation at the festival.
Their appearance came just over two weeks after Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck after less than two years of marriage.
About Lopez’s decision to end their union, another source recently said the star “didn’t want to file for divorce,” however, “She just felt like she had no choice. Nothing was gonna change with Ben.”
She was very upset about it,” that source added. “But true to her positive outlook on life, she’s moving forward with optimism. Instead of feeling like she’s fallen flat on her face, she sees it was meant to be. She’s taking time for herself right now.”
The source said Lopez is now keeping “focused on creating the best future for herself and her kids.”
Lopez broke her silence on the breakup when she featured on the cover of Interview magazine, admitting the heartbreak of the split did “almost take me out for good.”
Now, “I’m not looking for anybody,” Lopez said in the story, “because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f—ing do when it’s just me flying on my own. What if I’m just free?”
