Ariana Grande is likely focused almost exclusively at the moment on her upcoming movie. She’s set to star alongside Cynthia Erivo in the two installments of the musical Wicked, which has finally been turned into a movie (several of them, actually) after decades of incredible success on Broadway. The pop singer has slowed promotion of her latest album, Eternal Sunshine, as she and Erivo begin to push their big-budget production, which arrives in less than a month.

While music may be on the back burner right now, Grande is so popular and hardworking, she manages to score a new hit on charts around the world this week. The superstar joined Charli XCX on a remixed take of the latter’s song “Sympathy is a Knife,” which has become a quick win on a number of Billboard tallies.

Sympathy is a Knife” performs best on the dance and electronic lists in the U.S. The duet even manages to shoot straight to No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs tally, giving both acts another champion.

Grande and Charli rule the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart, as “Sympathy is a Knife” not only returns to the ranking, but reappears at No. 1. The track has now spent nearly a month on Billboard’s roster of the most-streamed tracks in the U.S. that can be classified as dance, electronic, or both, when looking at genre.

“Sympathy is a Knife” marks Grande’s fourth No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart. She first ruled a decade ago with “Break Free,” her dance-pop single that features producer Zedd. In 2020, she and Lady Gaga sent “Rain on Me” to the top spot as well, and then they collected a Grammy together.

Grande has now accrued two No. 1 hits in 2024 alone. That’s half of all of her leaders on the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs tally. As the year began, her own “Yes, And?,” which served as the lead single from Eternal Sunshine, hit the top spot.

The actor and singer has seen five of her songs reach the tally. The only one that hasn’t soared to No. 1 is “Heatstroke” by Calvin Harris. That 2017 cut, which also features Young Thug and Pharrell, peaked at No. 19.

Charli doubles her total number of No. 1 smashes on the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart this week. She’s earned both of her rulers this year, as 2024 has turned out to be massive for the British singer-songwriter. A few weeks back, she and Billie Eilish pushed their reworked take on Charli’s “Guess” to the summit for three frames.
