Breaking News: Diddy’s Lawyers Called His Jail ‘Horrific.’ Federal Authorities Are Looking into the Facility…. See More

Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently being held at MDC Brooklyn as he awaits trial on federal sex crime charges

The federal government is launching an “interagency operation” at the Metropolitan Detention Complex in Brooklyn, the jail where Sean “Diddy” Combs is being held, which his lawyers previously called “horrific” in a court filing.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons tells PEOPLE in the the statement that the agency is conducting the operation along with the U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General and other law enforcement agencies.

The operation is part of an effort to improve conditions and maintain “a safe environment for both our employees and the incarcerated individuals housed at MDC Brooklyn,” the bureau says.

“This operation was preplanned and there is no active threat,” the Bureau of Prisons says in a statement. “In an effort to maintain the safety and security of all personnel inside the facility and the integrity of this operation, we are unable to provide additional information at this time. We will provide additional information at the conclusion of the operation.”

Combs, who is charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution, is being held at MDC Brooklyn after two judges denied his request for bail.

In the rejected bail proposal, Combs’ attorneys said the facility was “not fit for pre-trial detention” and called conditions “horrific.”

After a court appearance on Oct. 10, attorney Marc Agnifilo was asked what the biggest adjustment to being behind bars was for the mogul.

“I think the food’s probably the roughest part of it,” Agnifilo said.

Housed in the same area of the facility as Combs is Sam Bankman-Fried, the convicted fraudster who founded FTX, sources previously told PEOPLE.

“[Combs] is being treated like any other detainee awaiting trial,” a source said. “As with all public figures in his position, he was placed on suicide watch upon admittance to the facility as a precaution.”

If convicted on all charges, Combs could spend the rest of his life in prison.

The interagency operation comes a month after nine MDC Brooklyn inmates were charged after a series of attacks, the Associated Press reported.

The sex crimes indictment against the Bad Boy Records founder centers around what prosecutors have called “freak offs,” in which he allegedly forced or coerced women into participating in highly orchestrated sex performances with male sex workers.
