The Prince of Wales recalls visiting his first homelessness shelter with Prince Harry and his mother

Prince William has been hailed for following his heart in his new documentary.

Fans have praised the Prince of Wales following the two-part documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, which follows the future King’s Homewards initiative project launched last year.

The project aims to combat homelessness in the UK and focuses on six locations around the UK.

William also mentioned his brother Prince Harry during the documentary in what appeared to be an olive branch amid their feud.

The Prince of Wales has credited his mother Princess Diana for inspiring him to be ambitious in his goals.

William said: “I have taken some inspiration and guidance from what my mother did, particularly with homelessness. That has grown more over the last few years.

The prince also revealed that he speaks to his children about homelessness.

He said: “When I was very small my mother started talking about homelessness – much like I do now with my children on the school run.

It’s something that had a deep resonation with me.”

Princess Diana took William, aged 11, and Prince Harry to his first homeless shelter visit in December 1993.

The Prince of Wales is not on speaking terms with his younger brother, Prince Harry after the Duke of Sussex stepped down as a working royal and moved to California with his wife, Meghan Markle.

William described the experience in his new documentary: “I’d never been to anything like that before.”

“I remember at the time kind-of thinking, well if everyone’s not got a home, they’re all going to be really sad. But it was incredible how happy an environment it was.”

There are other people out there who don’t have the same life as you do.”

She made sure that when she grew up that the life outside palace walls thing was real, you know, not just a statement.”

Fans hailed him for “following his heart” and comparing him with his late mother.

One fan commented: “William is truly his mother’s son. Diana would be so proud of her boy (her soulmate, as she said). We love you, William. Thank you for your incredible work.”

Another wrote: “You truly are your mother’s son! She would be so proud of you and your work! I think we as a country feel you’re upholding her legacy with honour and love.”

One user also commented: “Well done for following your heart and carrying forward your mother’s legacy. She must be so proud, watching from heaven and cheering you on.

“Ending homelessness was one of her passions, and I’m glad she’s still your advisor, guiding you from above. Hugs to you and your family.”

The documentary will be in two parts, with the first airing on October 30 and the second on October 31 at 9pm on ITV1.
