Sean “Diddy” Combs’s attorneys are urging a Manhattan federal court to grant him bail, proposing a $50 million package and strict surveillance to counter the government’s concerns. Facing charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, Diddy’s team argues the case is weak and asserts that his continued detention violates his constitutional rights.

In a dramatic turn, Diddy’s legal team is once again fighting his detention in a Manhattan federal court. Sean “Diddy” Combs, facing allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, has been held without bail since his arrest in September. His prior bail requests were rejected due to concerns that he could tamper with witnesses. However, Diddy’s attorneys are now proposing a stringent new bail arrangement with 24/7 security surveillance and nearly absolute restrictions on whom he can contact—limited only to his legal counsel.

To strengthen their case, his attorneys are including a massive $50 million bond and claiming new evidence weakens the government’s accusations. The government alleges that a video from 2016 shows Diddy abusing an ex-girlfriend during a “forced freak-off,” a disturbing, non-consensual event referenced in the indictment. However, Diddy’s attorneys dispute this interpretation, describing it instead as a “minutes-long glimpse” into what they describe as a consensual, decade-long relationship between Combs and the alleged victim.

P Diddy unable to consult with his legal team

The defence argues that the strict conditions at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, where he has been held since his arrest, are impeding Diddy’s right to properly prepare his defence. His attorneys emphasise that under these restrictions, he is unable to effectively consult with his legal team, which they argue undermines his constitutional rights.

The P Diddy case: Not guilty or what?

Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include accusations of physical violence, kidnapping, arson, and blackmail—allegedly used to keep his victims silent. The case remains highly contentious as Diddy awaits his trial scheduled for May 5, with his team insisting on his innocence. According to his defence, the charges are based on weak evidence and misconstrued accounts of his past relationships.

The proposed bail package, which aims to address the judge’s concerns, also underlines the growing criticism of the harsh detention environment. Diddy’s team is adamant that the proposed bail conditions are rigorous enough to prevent witness tampering and allow him a fair chance to prepare for his upcoming trial.
