Brad Pitt Ordered To Release Docs That Could Prove He Was Abusive During Angelina Jolie Marriage….Read More
A recent court ruling in the ongoing legal dispute between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie could allow the actress to prove that she and their children were victims of abuse during her marriage to the “Bullet Train” star.
The ruling requires Pitt to provide documents and communications from around the time Jolie alleged that the actor had abused her during a private plane flight.
The ex-couple has been fighting in court since Brad Pitt sued Angelina Jolie in 2022 over her decision to sell her stake in their co-owned winery to a third party.
The court battle between Pitt and Jolie has escalated with the court’s latest ruling requiring the “Moneyball” star to hand over certain documents and communications.
According to documents obtained by the Daily Mail, the information being requested from Pitt revolves around the period when Jolie first accused her ex-husband of being abusive during an altercation they had on a private plane.
The said incident occurred with the children on board the plane, but Pitt has since denied being abusive and was cleared after an investigation by the authorities.
Part of what is now being requested from the actor includes his emails, texts, and other written communications from that timeline, which would be handed over to Jolie and her attorneys.
However, Pitt will still be able to withhold any communication between his attorney or therapists, seemingly due to legal protections that ensure confidential communication between a client and their professional advisors.
Why Angelina Jolie Filed To Have Brad Pitt Turn Over The Documents And Communications
Jolie’s approved request for the documents comes after her lawyers claimed that it would prove “communications concerning abuse, lies to authorities, and years of cover-up” by her ex-husband.
They had also argued that the documents would show Pitt tried to make Jolie sign an NDA, a claim which emerged recently in their drawn-out court battle.
Although the ruling ultimately went in favor of Jolie, Pitt’s attorneys did everything they could to get it denied.
They had filed that Jolie’s request for the information was “wide-ranging and intrusive” into Pitt’s personal life.
His attorneys also described the request as a “sensationalist fishing expedition,” contrary to claims that the documents asked for in the request were “crucial evidence” that Pitt has “fought for years to hide.”
Angelina Jolie’s Lawyer Said The Actress Didn’t Want Their Court Battle
In a statement to the news outlet, one of Jolie’s attorneys clarified that the actress never intended to have a court dispute with her ex-husband
The attorney also emphasized that Jolie demonstrated this through various actions following the alleged abuse she endured at Pitt’s hands and their eventual divorce.
“I want to again emphasize that Angelina never wanted any of this. She never pressed charges, she left all their properties, and she is the one who tried to sell him the business in the first place,” said the actress’s attorney, Paul Murphy.
Murphy also criticized Pitt for continuing the court dispute and urged him to “focus on healing” his relationship with Jolie and their children.
He added, “To this day, Mr. Pitt has never been held accountable for his actions and has at all times controlled Miraval and the winery, yet he still demands more. She wants this to end, the children want this to end, and Mr. Pitt should focus on healing their family, not pursuing lawsuits.”
Regarding the couple’s dispute over their winery, a decision is expected to be made at trial next year after a court recently dismissed Jolie’s motions to have the case dismissed.
As the case continues to unfold, many sources have suggested that the situation will only become more complicated, per the Daily Mail.
An insider commented, “It’s already been ugly, but it’s going to get even uglier as Angie is bent on retaliating against Brad and will try to continue to settle more old personal scores.”
One other source also criticized Jolie for introducing “personal elements” into the matter rather than keeping it strictly business.
“This is a straightforward business dispute, but unfortunately, the other side has consistently introduced personal elements which have exposed the weaknesses in their case and complicated and lengthened the proceedings.” said the source.
Pitt and Jolie share six children: Maddox, Pax, and Zahara, all three who were adopted, and their biological children, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.
In August, reports surfaced that Pitt has had “virtually no contact” with his older children for some time, per People Magazine.
The children in question appear to be Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh, who have either already turned 18 or recently reached that age, which means they are no longer subject to any custody arrangement he was given in 2021.
The actor, however, still has “visitation” rights with the younger kids, Vivienne and Knox, although they also seem to have a strained relationship with the actor.
