King Charles took a trip to Notting Hill this morning to thank Disasters Emergency Committee staff, aid workers and volunteers.
King Charles appeared in fine form this morning as he visited St Peter’s Church in Notting Hill to thank staff, aid workers and volunteers of the Disasters Emergency
The 76-year-old monarch, who hosted a lavish state banquet at Buckingham Palace last night, has a longstanding relationship with the DEC, which brings together fifteen leading UK aid charities to raise funds rapidly at times of humanitarian crisis overseas.
The King and Queen donated to the DEC’s Middle East Humanitarian appeal which launched on the 17th October 2024
The DEC has launched five appeals in the last three years, including the DEC’s Ukraine appeal, which has so far raised £438 million and helped an estimated 8.2 million people affected by the conflict.
At the conclusion of his engagement, Charles went on an impromptu walkabout, much to the delight of those gathered outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the King.
Many of those waiting were tourists, who couldn’t believe their luck that they were able to meet the King.
One US tourist explained afterwards: “This is like a move – this would never happen in the US!
