Breaking News: Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Just Revealed Why They’re Growing Out Their Beards Together….. Read More
The best friends and collaborators have an exciting new project in the works
There’s nothing quite like matching beards to solidify a bromance. Just ask Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
In a new interview with Extra TV that was released on Nov. 4, the costars, producing partners and best friends revealed that they’re sporting more scruff these days for their forthcoming Netflix film, RIP.
“We’re in the middle of it. That’s why we’re bearded,” said Damon of working on the crime thriller.
Everything you need to know, you can see right here,” joked Affleck.
In the past few months, the stars have been slowly growing out their facial hair for what is now known as their new film.
On Sept. 30, Damon, 54, was photographed at the opening night of McNeal in New York City with a salt-and-pepper beard complete with a mustache. And months after his split from Jennifer Lopez this past August, Affleck, 52, was seen arriving at his offices in Los Angeles with a scruffy appearance after having a clean-shaven face during the summer.
The details of RIP have yet to be unveiled. But, according to Netflix, the project is produced by the Oscar winners’ company, Artists Equity, and will be written and directed by Joe Carnahan. In addition to Affleck and Damon, it will also star Teyana Taylor, Néster Carbonell, The Flash’s Sasha Calle and Silent Night’s Catalina Sandino Moreno.
Artists Equity, we’ve made eight movies now in a couple of years and this is our first partnership with Netflix,” Affleck told Extra, adding that they’re “figuring out” the fine details.
“We all are very excited about. We’ve got a great cast and we’re really, really looking forward to the movie coming out,” he added.
Affleck and Damon recently collaborated on Small Things Like These (with Cillian Murphy) and wrestling biopic Unstoppable, which features Lopez as subject Anthony Robles’ mother Judy.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight months after his split from Lopez, Affleck praised his ex-wife’s performance. “Jennifer is spectacular,” he said in a November interview, also commending the rest of the cast for their work on the movie, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
“Unstoppable is a very different movie than this, but in a way it is similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists, and [director] Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and Don Cheadle and Jharrel [Jerome] and Bobby Cannavale, all of whom were really passionate about this film,” Affleck said.
It kind of speaks to a certain kind of thing, I guess, we’re drawn to, which is we really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved in it are deeply emotionally connected to the story,” he added.
