Following their divorce, Lopez is “moving forward with optimism,” a source says

Jennifer Lopez is taking what serves her and leaving everything else behind.

Following her divorce from Ben Affleck, the star is moving forward. On Friday, a source close to the singer told People that Lopez isn’t dwelling on the bad times with Affleck—instead, she’s grateful for the “beautiful memories” they shared together over the course of their two-year marriage.

She didn’t want to file for divorce. She just felt like she had no choice. Nothing was gonna change with Ben,” the insider shared, adding that “this has been one of the hardest years for Jennifer.” Not only did she face months of public speculation and scrutiny over her relationship status, but Lopez also spent most of her summer solo in the Hamptons after canceling her This Is Me… Live tour.

Regardless, it seems she’s keeping a positive attitude. “She was very upset about it. But true to her positive outlook on life, she’s moving forward with optimism,” the source added. “Instead of feeling like she’s fallen flat on her face, she sees it was meant to be. She’s taking time for herself right now.”

The insider expanded on what’s next for the singer: “She knows she lives a privileged life in so many ways. She’s very grateful for all the beautiful memories with Ben, but she’s now focused on creating the best future for herself and her kids.”

Earlier this week, Lopez shared a similar sentiment in a candid chat with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine. When asked if she regretted her relationship with Affleck—and the subsequent pain of their divorce—the star quickly made it clear that she was thankful for their time together, and there was “not one second” she regrets.

That doesn’t mean it didn’t almost take me out for good. It almost did,” Lopez expanded. “But now, on the other side of it, I think to myself, ‘Fuck, that is exactly what I needed. Thank you, god. I’m sorry it took me so long. I’m sorry that you had to do this to me so many times. I should have learned it two or three times ago. I get it. You had to hit me really hard over the head with a fucking sledgehammer. You dropped the house on me. Don’t have to do it again,’” she said.
