Pat and Brittany Mahomes decided to spend their NFL bye week differently

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes attended the Kansas City Royals’ playoff game against the New York Yankees, admitting it could lead to a ‘feud’ with wife Brittany

NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes has cheekily risked the wrath of his pregnant wife, Brittany, by opting to catch the Kansas City Royals’ MLB playoff game against the New York Yankees.

Mahomes, who’s already a three-time Super Bowl champ, joked that his decision to attend the baseball match during the Chiefs’ bye week might spark a bit of a dispute with Brittany, his high school love and soon-to-be mum of his second child.

It’s bye week, so Brittany’s vacationing and me getting to the Royals game, we’ll feud for sure,” Mahomes quipped after the Chiefs’ victory over the New Orleans Saints. True to his word, Mahomes was spotted at the game, donning the Royals’ colors alongside his brother, Jackson.

Despite the Royals’ narrow 3-2 defeat to the Yankees in Game 3, Mahomes seemed to enjoy himself, even playfully confronting former teammate Gehrig Dieter.

With a father who played 11 years in the MLB, Patrick’s passion for baseball is no surprise, having been passed down from stints with teams like the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Yokohama BayStars, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Mahomes, was once on the radar of the Detroit Tigers, who picked him in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Despite this, Mahomes kept his eyes on the gridiron at Texas Tech, and it paid off when he became a first-round pick for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Mahomes has experienced a slower personal start to the 2024 NFL season than usual, with an equal number of touchdown passes and interceptions at six each, and only 1,235 passing yards to his name. Yet, the Chiefs are still on a winning streak with a flawless 5-0 record, even with significant injuries plaguing their offensive lineup, including Hollywood Brown and running back Isiah Pacheco.

Praising the Kansas City defense, Mahomes acknowledged their contribution to the team’s success: “We’ve won different ways. At the end of the day, our defense is playing their tail off, and I think people are starting to come to realize that even more, even when we’re getting these field goals (that) are keeping us in these games,” he said on Monday.

Obviously, offensively we had a better day today – a lot of yards. Now, it’s about finding ways to finish with touchdowns in the red zone so we can make these leaps bigger (and) faster and then we can really let (Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo) Spags be Spags. I think if we can do that then we’ll continue to get better and better as the years go on.”
