You may want to sit down for this one, because Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, shared rare details about Prince William and Prince Harry’s childhood.

In a candid interview from 2023, Burrell discussed how Prince Harry was treated in the palace compared to his brother, Prince William. “When I look back now, I think maybe I was glimpsing the dynamic at play,” he told The Sun.

Burrell recalled a time when Prince Harry was given a smaller breakfast than Prince William. “One time I saw the nanny give William three sausages at breakfast and Harry had two,” the royal butler said. “And Harry would look at his plate and say, ‘How come he gets three? And I only get two.’”

He added, “Harry would fall quiet and suck it up, but that’s what he had to contend with, even in his own home.

Burrell noted that this favoritism was only shown by the royal staff and not the princes’ mother, Princess Diana. “In their mother’s eyes, they were absolutely equal,” he continued. “The princess doted on them both. But I can see that Harry found it tough living up to the standard set by William.”

When asked about Prince Harry’s resignation as a senior royal, Burrell admitted that it all stems back to his childhood. “He’s clearly hurt and angry at being ‘the spare’ and so he’s lashing out from that place,” he said.
