American tennis star Coco Gauff is unapologetically herself both on and off the court.
Gauff is less than a month removed from winning the French open final. She defeated Aryna Sabalenka in a wild three-set match to claim her second career major title. In 2023, she defeated Sabalenka in the US Open final.
After capturing her first French Open title, Gauff was asked what it’s like representing the United States everywhere she goes. Her response was awfully impressive.
“It means a lot. Obviously there’s a lot going on in our country right now,” Gauff said, via The Tennis Letter. “Just to be a representation of that and a representation of people that look like me in America, who maybe don’t feel as supported during this time period. Being that reflection of hope and light for those people.”
One of the reasons Gauff wants to represent hope for her fans is because she believes the country lacks it right now.
Gauff, who turned 21 this past March, recently brought up the 2024 presidential election. She referred to Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris as a “down period” for Americans
