There was a lovely father and daughter moment after Iga Swiatek won her fifth Grand Slam title as Tomasz gently pulled his daughter’s nose after a long hug.

It was no doubt something he had done a million times over the past 23 years, almost as if to say “well done my little girl!”

Tomasz Swiatek has been an ever-present figure in his daughter’s tennis career, but admitted earlier in 2024 that life had not always been easy as at times he feared they might have to give up on their dreams. “It has long been known that Iga has a gift for playing. However, there were obstacles along the way, including an injury in 2017. Then everything was hanging in the balance,” he revealed to TVP in Poland.

Tomasz added: “There was a moment when I was against the wall financially. When I explained to Iga that there might come a time when we would have to stop training, I was convinced to try again. There was a moment when I earned enough money to earn my bread and butter, but there was nothing extra thanks to which I could afford additional financing.”

But the Swiatek family toughed it out and eventually the tide turned as by 2020 Swiatek became a household name in tennis.
