The Prince and Princess of Wales managed to sneak in a date night in October 2023, and onlookers were left stunned by their unexpected appearance during the outing

Prince William and Kate Middleton turned heads with their unexpectedly laid-back look during a surprise date night.

The royal couple usually spend their time away from the public eye with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. But they managed to slip away for a night out in October 2023.

They made a covert trip to the auction house Dreweatts, situated near their home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. The Daily Mail reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales showed “very, very interested” in various items on display.

These items were part of the extraordinary collection belonging to the late decorator and antiques expert Robert Kime, who had been tasked by King Charles in 2000 to revamp Highgrove and Clarence House. A three-day auction showcasing his collection, which included carpets and vases with values reaching £1.5 million, commenced on Wednesday, 4 October.

An insider shared with the Daily Mail: “Everyone was all of a twitter to see them. It was the beginning of the very big champagne reception that auctioneers always have before a serious date.”

Both Dreweatt and Kensington Palace have refrained from commenting on the visit by William and Kate. However, there is speculation that they may have placed some discreet telephone bids.

Should the couple have participated in the bidding, it’s believed any acquisitions would be intended as presents for friends and family rather than for their own collection.

The Princess of Wales has a well-known passion for the arts, having graduated with a degree in History of Art. According to royal author Tina Brown, Kate often makes discreet solo visits to museums and galleries, using a clever tactic to avoid detection.
