King Charles has emerged in unexpected scenes from Windsor Castle overnight, with the colourful photos going viral on social media.
Somewhat absurd photos of King Charles III getting acquainted with a carrot have emerged from Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom overnight.
Upon first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking Charles was caught gleefully nibbling on a snack in full view of the world’s media and 350 guests.
In fact, the UK monarch and protector of the Commonwealth realms was playing a carrot-shaped musical recorder (we acknowledge that does little to quell confusion).
The royal family hosted a music reception honouring the London Vegetable Orchestra at the Windsor residence on Thursday evening.

Members of the group, famous for their vegetable instruments, gave the King the opportunity to try his hand at playing the recorder, with Charles, 76, delivering a rusty rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Royal watchers have reacted to the scenes on social media, with one quipping, “I’m choosing to believe that this is AI and didn’t happen.”
“Ladies and gentleman, King Charles III,” another wrote.
“The End of Days is upon us and King Charles is on the news playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on a flute made from a carrot. What a time to be alive,” a user added.
Castle,” ITV reporter Chris Ship shared.
“I did not have this on my bingo card,” a fifth chimed in.
Others thought the moment was “utterly charming”, with one writing, “He’s lightened up a lot since his grandkids came along.”
The regal reception was held to celebrate people working in community music across the UK, many of whom are volunteers.
Charles appeared in good spirits during the outing, which came just days after the monarch was hospitalised for undisclosed side effects from his cancer treatment.
The King has been undergoing regular cancer treatment since his diagnosis early last year, and concerns were sparked on Thursday when it emerged he’d been taken to hospital after experiencing “temporary side effects”.
Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,” the statement from Buckingham Palace read.
He returned to his London residence, Clarence House, following his hospital stay before travelling to his country home, Highgrove, to recover over the weekend.
