Meghan Markle has released a new statement after making a Thanksgiving appearance without Prince Harry amid the couple’s professional separation.

The couple have embarked on a separation of their professional lives and have pivoted to solo public appearances rather than joint engagements over the last few months.

The Duchess of Sussex hosted a dinner for the Southern California Welcome Project through the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation.

However, Prince Harry did not attend the event.

The couple released a new statement regarding the Duchess of Sussex’s Thanksgiving appearance on their website.

It said: “In celebration of Thanksgiving, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex and The Archewell Foundation hosted a heartfelt dinner for the Southern California Welcome Project.

“This initiative, led by the partner organization Mina’s List, has spent the past year building community through storytelling and creating a safe space for women who have resettled in the U.S. from Afghanistan.

“The evening included a shared meal that encouraged open conversation centred on gratitude and resilience.

“The Duchess expressed her deep appreciation to the attendees for sharing their personal stories and cultural experiences, underscoring her excitement for future gatherings that continue to strengthen these connections.

The dinner was hosted at Our Place, founded by Shiza Shahid, where the participants were gifted with new cookware for the upcoming holiday season.

Through her work with The Archewell Foundation, The Duchess remains committed to uplifting women and fostering community through shared experiences, reinforcing the importance of unity and support during challenging times.”

Earlier this month, the Duke of Sussex undertook engagements linked to the upcoming Invictus Games in Vancouver on his own, with Meghan’s absence unusual.

The Duchess of Sussex has accompanied Prince Harry to Invictus Games events since 2017 onwards and joined her husband in Vancouver in February 2024 for a previous promotional event.

The couple stepped out at Invictus events in February across several days in Canada in what was seen as a preview of the first-ever winter edition of the sporting competition.

In addition to attending the earlier preview event in Canada, Meghan has joined Harry at the Invictus Games in the Netherlands and Germany in recent years.

She is expected to accompany Harry in February at the Vancouver games, with the couple reportedly weighing up bringing their son Prince Archie with them.
