Whoopi Goldberg quips about her three failed marriages to Rachel Lindsay….Read More
Whoopi Goldberg knows how to make a woman going through a divorce be easy on herself. She got real on The View, joking about her marriage history while talking to reality star Rachel Lindsay, who’s in the middle of a dramatic divorce from her Bachelorette winner Bryan Abasolo. During their chat, Lindsay admitted feeling “public pressure to always let people know that everything’s great, even though behind closed doors, that might not be the case.”
The single 69-year-old appreciated her vulnerability and shared her own story, saying, “I’ve been married 100 times! And I could never get it right, so congratulations!”
She explained that while some people get it right and can stay together for decades, “some don’t get it right the first or second – or even the third time. Marriage isn’t for everybody, so don’t kick your own butt.
Whoopi’s history of saying “I do”
Goldberg was first married to Alvin Martin in 1973, her former drug counselor and the father of her daughter, Alex. They split in 1979.
Her second marriage was to Dutch cinematographer David Claessen in 1986, but their relationship lasted just two years
In 1994, she tied the knot with actor and union organizer Lyle Trachtenberg, but they divorced a year later in 1995.
After striking out three times, Goldberg has made it clear she has no interest in tying the knot again. On a May 2024 episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? When he asked if she was not for marriage because she didn’t want to share she quickly responded, “No I don’t,” adding, “It’s terrible.” “You know, when you’re married to somebody, you have to be invested in how they’re feeling.”
But that doesn’t mean she isn’t into getting some physical attention; they just can’t stay the night. On the Don Lemon show in May, she shared that “hit-and-runs,” aka overnight hookups, are “great,” but they “can’t spend the night.”
