Lady Gaga has shared more teasers about her upcoming album, describing it as “chaotic”, “genre-bending” and “very fun

The singer shared the news of her upcoming seventh album last month when she dropped the electro-pop song ‘Disease’ as the lead single. So far, little is known about the forthcoming record – which is going by ‘LG7’ for now – although it is expected to arrive in February 2025.

As well as sharing the eerie music video for the new track, Gaga also opened up about the new song on social media, saying it ran parallel to “the relationship I have with my own inner demons”.

“It’s never been easy for me to face how I get seduced by chaos and turmoil,” she wrote. “‘Disease’ is about facing that fear, facing myself and my inner darkness, and realising that sometimes I can’t win or escape the parts of myself that scare me. That I can try and run from them but they are still part of me and I can run and run but eventually I’ll meet that part of myself again, even if only for a moment.”

Now, the singer, songwriter and actor has shed light on what fans can expect from ‘LG7’ in a new interview, and revealed that the album as a whole takes on a more “chaotic” vibe.

The album is chaotic from a genre perspective—it is genre-bending, and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music,” she told Vogue. “When I write and produce and sing songs, I am always drawing upon my knowledge of the history of music, and so many artists and producers that came before me. In that way, this album is a celebration of a lot of the music that made me who I am, because when I returned to a darker pop style of pop, all my early experiences with music came out.”

She continued, adding that the LP also has an aspect of personal storytelling at its core. “I wrote a lot of various fantasies and escapes. The only place reality is really present is that these fantasies are coming from a real person, trying to soothe their inner chaos,” she explained. “That’s where I found the reason for why I make this music. Each song is an exercise in personal chaos—a way to deal with myself.”

“The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very fun and meant to be enjoyed at a party, in a club, or at home having personal fun time—to be free of your worries at home or walking through life,” she concluded.

Gaga had previously teased the lead track by hiding the title within her Spotify catalogue. She did so by spelling out one song from each of her seven albums in upper case letters, apart from one lower case letter.

For example, ‘Dance In The Dark’ from 2009’s ‘The Fame Monster’ is now spelt ‘dANCE IN THE DARK’. When these are all put together, it reads “disease”. Gaga also shared a playlist called ‘.com’ on her Spotify account, arranging the songs to spell out “Gaga disease”.

Upon its release, she went on to share a live, piano-led acoustic version of the track. Now, she has also shared a new electric guitar rendition.

“Since the chorus of ‘Disease’ was written at the piano, that version was in some parts really delicate and almost sombre. So, something I always try to do when I’m singing a song again is to go deeper, and I wondered if we took some of the electric guitar energy that’s on the pop version and stripped it back—would I find another level to the song? And I did,” she told the outlet.

The video for the latest version was shot in one take and sees her signing alongside longtime guitarist Tim Stewart. Check it out above.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in September, Gaga said she wasn’t “even ready to talk about [her new album] yet”, but promised to reveal more details on the “unhinged” LP soon. However, she did explain: “The pop album is nothing like [2020’s] ‘Chromatica’. It’s a completely different record […] What I would say is, it’s all for me.”

Gaga added: “It’s meant to be ingested as a time in my life. And I’m also really excited about this idea that I don’t have to adhere to an era if I don’t want to. I can have a few going at once. That feels unhinged [laughs]…”

Last month, the artist shared ‘Harlequin’ – a companion album to her new film Joker: Folie à Deux. In August, Gaga released the standalone collaborative single ‘Die With A Smile’ with Bruno Mars.
