The Holmes girls are having a cozy-off. It’s a battle of the bundled-up. Katie Holmes and her daughter, Suri Cruise, were recently pictured strolling through New York in oversized jackets, proving that statement style runs in the family.

The pair were spotted out and about on Thursday, October 17, Cruise apparently home from college in Pennsylvania, where she’s attending Carnegie Mellon. She paired oversize navy pants with a white T-shirt and a puffy denim jacket lined with shearling, while Holmes opted for a gray sweatsuit covered by a long camel coat and sneakers. For footwear, Cruise chose…can it be? The Frye campus boots in banana that all the co-eds are obsessed with? Okay, no, not exactly that style, but a Fall Boot Lewk for sure.

Holmes accessorized with tinted sunglasses and a tote, and both ladies kept their hair simple and went makeup-free.

Cruise is a fan of blue on blue. In May, she took a stroll with her mom wearing wide-leg jeans and another denim jacket, this one lined with corduroy. And she once again accessorized with a brown leather shoe: suede slip-ons. And of course, Holmes is always up for fall layering, having a Nora Ephron moment here, a cardigan party there.

More recently, she wore a Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt (possibly the same one under this coat? Could be!), showing how much of a proud parent she is. Of course, having her daughter home is even better than supporting her from afar, empty-nester uniform or nah.

Katie Holmes spoke glowingly of her daughter in her 2023 Glamour cover story, saying, “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her. I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.” The family that pap-walks together stays together.
